Lakeside Memories Card Tutorial: Ink Blended Scene with Layering Stencils
Hello, crafty friends! It’s Marie again from Marie Nicole Designs. I absolutely LOVE the Lakeside Memories Collection that I am sharing on the blog today. I have a few cute critters to feature, but please make sure to look at the WHOLE collection. There are just too many cute things!

In this post, I’ll be walking through a simple step-by-step on how to create an ink-blended scene with the layering stencils, and then how to assemble a few of the die-cut images and put it all together in a fun, scenic card.
Let’s get started!
Step 1

Take your set of Lakeside Memories layering stencils and notice the bottom left-hand corner. You will see that each stencil is numbered, and there are corner guides that line up perfectly with an A2-sized card front (4.25×5.5).
Step 2

The first two stencils in the set created the green hillsides for the scene. For the first stencil, I used a lighter green, Mowed Lawn. Then, I switched to the second stencil and used a darker green – Rustic Wilderness. When creating a layered scene, it’s easiest to use the lightest color in the back and layer a darker color on top.
Step 3

For the next step, we are using the stencils to add the sky and water. These two areas of the background are included on the same stencil, as I’m sure you can see why. They can use the same colors! I added Tumbled Glass first, and then just a bit of shading on the edges with Faded Jeans.
I also added just a touch of sparkle to the lake by splattering on some Sparkle Splatter Effects.
Step 4

The next two stencils add the sun and the sand. For the sun, I used Scattered Straw and Mustard Seed. For the sand, I used Scattered Straw and Tea Dye.
I also did a few splatters on the sand for a little texture. I just used the Tea Dye color mixed with a little water and then splattered it on with a paintbrush.
Step 5

To cut and assemble the canoe, I used some kraft colored paper for the piece that layers the inside of the canoe. Then, I cut the outside layer from red.
There are also little pieces to cut out for the tips of the canoe, and I cut those from a darker brown.
The oar is also cut from the same two shades of brown that I used for the canoe.
Once the canoe and oar are assembled, set them aside to dry.
Step 6

Cut out the pieces for the fox. I used orange for the main body pieces and white for the accent pieces. I also used a little black to layer behind the head for the eyes.
PS. There is a white oval shape shown in the above picture that is a belly piece, but it does not match the fox image. I used the fluffy white piece for the fox’s belly instead of the oval, which coordinates with the raccoon and the skunk in this die set.
Step 7

Layer the black rectangle behind the fox’s face with some glue. This will be the eyes.
Step 8

Assemble the fox! In the photo above, I have all the pieces laid out where they go. Just add a dab of liquid glue to each place and adhere them together.
Don’t forget the little nose piece! There are also eye pieces you can cut out and add inside the eye spots. I opted to skip this part and just draw in a little white circle on each eye with a white pen. Either way works!
My daughter assembled the raccoon on the right. These critters are just too cute!
Step 9

Use the clear stamp sentiment set, Summertime Sentiments, and stamp a sentiment on the bottom of the card. I used black ink in my stamping tool for a crisp, stamped sentiment. There are so many sentiments to choose from!
My daughter and I chose the sentiment she wanted so that she could give this to her natural science teacher at the end of the school year!
Step 10

Finish the card by adding the background to a card base with foam adhesive. I trimmed an ⅛ inch off of each side of the background so I could adhere to a kraft cardstock base and leave a little matting around the scene.
Then, I added the canoe and the fox with foam adhesive, as well, for some dimension.
And that finishes the card!

I hope you enjoyed following me along on this tutorial featuring the Lakeside Memories Collection. PLEASE go check out the FULL collection. It is so cute! There are many more cute critters and accessories to dress them up in. I merely gave you an idea to get started!
Thanks for stopping by. Until next time, Marie Nicole.
