Sealed for Summer – Floral Cards with Leica Palma
Hello, crafty friends! It’s Leica here, and I’m thrilled to share with you my lovely floral cards using the Sealed For Summer Collection from Spellbinders. I’ve created three cards with a floral theme, and I’m excited to send them to my friends. Glimmer Bouquet Hi Card Let’s start with my first card. I used the Essential Modern Ovals Etched Dies to cut out ovals in different colors of cardstock. Then, I added a touch of elegance by hot foiling the Glimmer Bouquet Hot Foil Plate in gold on Snowdrift cardstock and cutting it with the coordinating die. The large bouquet makes a stunning focal point. I also used the Glimmer…

Using Distress Oxide Inks To Add Tons of Color to Die Cut Scenes
Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m thrilled to be back on the blog today to share some fun ways to use Distress Oxide Inks to enhance your die-cut scenes. Ink-blended backgrounds can add tons of color to your cards while coloring die-cuts with inks can really add dimension and realistic details. Here I used Distress Oxide Inks along with the Country Road Collection to create three colorful cards for different seasons. I thought a bright sunset-inspired sky would be beautifully paired with a…

Photosynthesis & Cards with Marie Heiderscheit
Hello, friends! Marie here again from Marie Nicole Designs. I have three cards to share featuring the Photosynthesis Collection by Simon Hurley. This collection is so fun! Lots of florals and a few ways to create pretty backgrounds. Not to mention the glimmer sentiments that are perfect for any type of card! Let’s take a look. SIMPLE BOUQUET Whenever I create a set of cards I like to make them all in the same color family. Then, I can switch up the card design, but they end up looking very coordinated in the end. For my cards today, I chose a vintage palette. Pinks, purples, and muted greens give an…

Direct-to-Paper Backgrounds & Glimmer Cardfront Sentiments by Joan Bardee
Hello crafters! I’m Joan Bardee and I hope you are ready for some fun! Today I’m sharing some easy and colorful cards using the unique Glimmer Cardfront Sentiments collection. Bottom line – this collection, which has 6 separate glimmer plates, each with a large sentiment in a fun font – packs a big punch. The collection also includes a stencil and die that creates a beautiful floral. I paired 3 of these sentiments with a background made with the “direct-to-paper” technique. In this technique, you hold the ink pad in your hand and apply it directly to the paper. I decided on somewhat abstract versions of circles, stripes, and plaid.…

Hexi-Gems Collection – Card Inspiration with Annie Williams
Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m excited to be back on the blog today to share a couple of projects using the new Hexi-Gems Collection from Spellbinders. I loved playing with different ways to use this fun new shape in my cardmaking and was inspired to create a couple of pretty cards in three different styles. Sleek and Modern Friendship Card Since we’re working with “gems” here, I pulled out my favorite color of Glimmer Hot Foil to use with the new Hexi-Gem Glimmer Hot Foil Plate. Moondust Hot Foil creates an amazing iridescent finish that reminds me of blue topaz. Here I did some simple foiling for…

Design Decisions: Keeping the Process Simple Using the Stylish Ovals Collection with Joan Bardee
Hello crafters! Do you have a hard time settling on a card design? I’m Joan Bardee and I confess to remaking my cards multiple times. Today I’m sharing how I simplified my design decisions using the beautiful Stylish Ovals Collection. I took a long look at the collection and noted that several of the products have a symmetrical or near-symmetrical design. Symmetry, where one half of the design mirrors the other half, is balanced and evokes calm. So, for each card, I opted to use: 1. the same limited color palette (red/peach, white, and/or gold), and 2. a symmetrical or near symmetrical layout. I found that by making these decisions…

Creating “Oceans” Without Watercoloring Using the Seahorse Kisses Collection with Joan Bardee
Hello crafters! I’m Joan Bardee and today I am sharing 3 ocean-themed cards using the beautiful Seahorse Kisses Collection designed by Dawn Woleslagle. As I’m sure many of you know, Dawn Woleslagle is an amazing watercolorist. The Seahorse Kisses Collection would be beautiful watercolored. However, since I’m not on speaking terms with watercolors, I decided to create ocean backgrounds with ink blending on specialty papers. I hope you like the results. A Modern Inky Tide This abstract modern take on ocean tides was inspired by these amazing cards that Yana Smakula made with Spellbinders Glimmer Specialty Cardstock. This paper, designed to be the perfect paper for hot foiling, has a…

GLIMMER OVER A FUN BACKGROUND My first card features the large glimmer plate image of a seahorse along with some shells, flowers, and sea plants. I kept it simple by making a fun background to glimmer over. I created the background by dragging several colors of blue ink pads across my paper in different directions to leave some streaks. Then,…
