Rainbow Paintbrush Cards with Jung AhSang

Hello crafty friends!  It’s Jung AhSang here, and I am so excited to be returning for another guest post on the Spellbinders blog. If you’d like to follow my crafty projects, my blog is jungahsang.wordpress.com, and my Instagram is @junglebarrya.

Today, I’m working with the Paint Your World collection by Vicky Papaioannou. I love this collection of paint brush die cut shapes, with some beautiful florals and butterflies mixed in.

For all three of my cards, I started out by die-cutting the pieces from each set.  For all the paintbrushes, I die-cut the paint brush handle from craft cardstock, the ferrule and handle end piece from brushed silver cardstock, and I cut several pieces of the bristles from cream cardstock to give the brush a fuller look.

Slimline Rainbow Painted Blooms Card

For my first card, I made a slimline card, featuring the Painted Blooms die set.

After assembling the paint brush, I diecut the leaves and flowers. I added the leaves to the paintbrush under the ferrule. I set that aside, and started working on my background panel. Using my paper trimmer, I cut strips of colored cardstock, and adhered them on a piece of thin copy/printer paper in rainbow order.  I trimmed this panel to about 3 ¼ x 8 ¼ in.  I used foam tape to adhere the rainbow background to a white slimline cardbase. Then, I adhered the paintbrush to the card using more foam tape.

Next, I glued 3 of the flowers to the paintbrush. I stacked 2 flower pieces for each flower to give them a fuller look. I left the white flowers plain, but added a little bit of ink blending to the yellow flowers. I added one more flower towards the bottom of the card, next to the handle. For my sentiment, I stamped the “My Favorite Color is Rainbow” sentiment from the Paint Your World Sentiments stamp sent with Versamark ink on black cardstock, then heat set using white embossing powder. I trimmed the sentiment, then adhered it over the paintbrush handle with foam tape. To finish off the card, I added a few silver gems.

Slimline Butterfly Burst Card

For my second card, I made a mini slimline card, using the Butterfly Burst die set.

After assembling the paintbrush, I set it aside, and worked on the background.  Using a piece of waterfall colored cardstock, I added a little bit of ink blending to create an ombre look. I used one of the Precision Layering Mini Slimline dies to diecut the panel a little smaller than the slimline.  To add more interest, I used the Head in the Clouds embossing folder. Then, I added just a little bit of white paint splatter. I attached the background panel to a white slimline card base with foam tape, then adhered the paintbrush using more foam tape.

I die cut the butterflies. I die cut 2 of the larger butterflies from pink and yellow cardstock;I die cut the more detailed piece from vellum, and stacked them together, adding just a little glue to the center. I die cut the body of the butterflies, then glued them in place. Next, I die cut the smaller butterflies in a few colors. I arranged the butterflies trailing up in a rainbow pattern.

For my sentiment, I stamped the “Crafty Friends are the Best” sentiment with Versamark ink on blue cardstock, then heat set using white embossing powder. I trimmed this piece to look like a tag, and added a hole using a hole punch. I tied the tag to the brush handle using a little bit of twine. To finish off the card, I added a tiny gem to the center of the little butterflies

Artful Tulip Paintbrush Card

For my third card, I made another mini slimline card, featuring the Artful Tulip dies.

Again, I assembled the paintbrush, then set it aside to work on the background. Like my first card, I decided to make a cardstock strip background.  This time, I used just the pink and red colored cardstock. I added a little bit of paint splatter in white and coral pink. I trimmed the panel using one of the Precision Layering Mini Slimline dies, then adhered it to a white mini slimline cardbase.

I die cut the flowers, and then tucked the leaves and tulips under the ferrule of the paintbrush. I adhered the paintbrush to the card using foam tape. I stamped the “Create Happiness” sentiment with Versamark ink on black cardstock, then heat set using white embossing powder. I trimmed the sentiment, then adhered it over the paintbrush handle with foam tape. To finish off the card, I added one small butterfly from the butterfly burst dies, and silver gems.
