3D Vignette Hot Air Balloons with Rachel Alvarado

Hello crafty friends! It’s Rachel from rachelalvaradodesigns.com and @theunpamperedstamper. I am thrilled to be back for another guest post on Spellbinder’s blog.  I have three projects to share with you today that feature the new 3D Vignette Hot Air Balloons from the 3D Vignette Collection by Becca Feeken.

For my first project, I created a 3D hot air balloon card as the die is intended. This style of card is so much fun to put together and looks super cute when propped up. I simply die-cut all of my pieces and adhered them together with liquid adhesive.  For my colors, I used a bright pink card stock combined with some Waterfall, Pink Sand, Silver Fox, Brushed Gold, Portobello, Snowdrift, and Teal Topaz Color Essentials Card Stock pieces.

I love how this card folds perfectly to fit into an envelope.  You can pick whatever colors you want as well as change up the sentiment.

I ended up using an A6-sized envelope to give my card a little bit more room and it worked perfectly.

For my second project, I created a box card that fits perfectly into a 5”x7” standard-sized envelope.

Box Card Base Dimensions:

  • Back Piece: 5” x 5”
  • Box Base: 10” x 1.25” scored at .5”, 2.5”, 7.5”, and 9.5”
  • Inner Strips: 5.75” x 1” scored at 3/8” from each end

I added some cute clouds that I die cut from both Snowdrift and Silver Fox Card Stock pieces using the On Cloud Nine Etched Dies from the Open Road Collection.  For my colors, I used mainly the same ones as I used in my project above with the exception of the balloon baskets in which I used some Timber Color Essentials Card Stock.  I used some Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide Ink for my ink-blended background.

This card also folds flat to fit into an envelope for mailing.

This card will usually fit perfectly into a standard 5” x 7” envelope.  I placed my clouds and balloons a little too high to fit perfectly into a 5×7 envelope so keep that in mind if you decide to create something similar. However, I was able to easily fit my card into a padded yellow envelope.

Lastly, I created a mini slimline card with a single balloon to show you how this set can be easily used to create flat cards as well.  My card measures at 4” x 6.25” and can also fit into a standard A6-sized envelope.  Instead of using colored card stock for this card, I die-cut all of my main balloon pieces from some Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock and used Copic Markers to color them.

  • Teals: G000, BG11, BG13, BG49
  • Whites: 0, C00, C1, C3
  • Browns: E41, E43, E44, E47

I blended a mix of Salvaged Patina and Peacock Feathers Distress Inks for my background and added some more clouds from the On Cloud Nine Etched Die Set.  I also used some Brushed Gold, Pink Sand,  Blue Spruce, and Onyx Card Stock for my balloon accent pieces.  I adhered my balloon to my base piece with some 3D foam adhesive tape for added dimension.
