Exquisite Splendor Inspiration | Spring Cards and Basket Tags with Rebecca
Hello there! This is Rebecca Luminarias and I’m back again with my second post featuring the Exquisite Splendor die collection by Marisa Job. As promised, these projects differ from my previous post’s work because they’re not holiday-oriented. With the dies being geared toward spring, I went with brightly colored papers and floral designs.
I’m sharing 4 projects with you today, using several of the die sets, and cut from Fancy Pants Designs’ The Yellow Door papers. The A2 Tulip Flower Frame die, which is a full card front panel, is one of my favorite dies in the entire set! I cut the tulip frame from pink dotted paper, and the plain rectangle backing panel from a cream and black ledger design. They fit perfectly on my A2 white card stock base.
I wanted much of the design to stay visible, so I limited the sentiment and embellishing to a cluster in the bottom left corner. I made three flowers using a die from the Flower Box Card die. Then I added a trio of stickers from The Yellow Door line, as well as a swatch of lace, an embroidery floss bow, and a simple ‘hi’ with glitter Thickers.
The next card I made also uses a die from the Flower Box Card set. It’s a long skinny die with a couple of curves on it. With several patterned papers, I layered 9 of the curved strips onto a 4″ x 4″ card, overlapping each one slightly.
I trimmed off the excess lengths that hang over the sides of the card. I cut the ‘THANK YOU’ letters from dies that are also included in the Flower Box Card set. You can make ‘LOVE YOU’ as well; the letters are unconnected so can be used anywhere on your canvas. I lined mine up with the curve of the die cuts on my card. The contrast of the white alphas and the colored paper strips allow for the message to easily be seen.
My last card for today features the Happy Birthday Banner die. The die is such that you cut out a mirrored image of the words ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY’ and they are meant to be folded over string or twine to form a garland.
I cut the words from some aqua paper with a subtle design, folding them over coral crochet thread and metallic gold thread. I layered both strands over thin lengths of lace on the bottom half of my card. The final touches were some cute 5-petal flowers I cut from dies that are included in the Blooming Floral Wreath set. I used the smallest one on the ‘HAPPY’ banner, and the next size up on the bottom banner. I simply adhered these in place with a dab of glue.
It’s a minimal card, in contrast to my previous two, but it gets right to the point in a fun way, and I love the colors and patterns!
My final project is a set of cute little basket tags. I created them with the Tulip Flower Box die set. I have a really quick tutorial for how I made them, but trust me, it’s really easy, and this is another fun way to utilize this die collection!
I cut out two of the intricate basket pieces from matching paper, and one hexagon from a different paper. The basket piece has fold creases, which I followed, though I folded them on opposite sides, meaning that I folded one basket with sides turned in toward the side of the paper that will be the front, and one basket with the sides turned toward the backside of the paper.
I’m lining up the baskets front to back. After adding adhesive to one set of basket folds, I adhered the two shapes, attaching the sides and bottom flaps together.
Finally, I adhered the small pocket to the hexagonal piece. They’re small and cute, and ready for a sweet note, a piece of chocolate, or some pretty flowers. I took some faux greenery and paper berries from my stash and filled the baskets. You can also use whatever kind of string or ribbon on these; I chose a bit of gold twine and stapled it to the hexagon top.
I’ve got a good head start on my spring crafting projects now and I’m happy to have some cards and tags to add to my stash! I hope you enjoyed my posts and projects and thank you to Spellbinders for inviting me to be here this month. Exquisite Splendor is a beautiful collection and was a joy to work with!
