House Mouse Holiday Collection Cardmaking Inspiration

Hello crafty friends. This is Amanda from Twiddler’s Nook and I’m very excited to be here sharing a trio of cards featuring the fantastic Christmas release from the Spellbinders House Mouse Collection. These mice stole my heart some years ago when I was first becoming a cardmaker and it thrills me to have them back to create with again.

To begin my creations today, I simply cut three panels of Bristol Smooth Cardstock and stamped the main image on each one. Then I sat down to relax and watercolor each one at leisure. I love coloring these images. They’re forgiving for novices and relaxing for anyone!

Once the panels were painted and dry, I started figuring out a design for my cards. Today I wanted to show how you can take a one-layer panel, pair it with something simple like embossing folders for a backdrop and bring them all to life. With that in mind, I chose some shaped dies to cut my watercolor panels with and then paired each one with a different embossing folder to show how each one can change the feel of your card.

For my first card, I used the Merry & Bright mouse with the Essential Modern Ovals dies and In the Pines embossing folder. I love how the mouse looks like he’s sailing right through my card front and right onto my Christmas tree!

I went direct-to-paper on all the embossing folders today with white pigment ink. I used a soft hand so it stays on the highest level of the paper, bringing the embossing out just the perfect amount. If you’ve not tried this technique before, I encourage to you play around with it. It’s quite fun and gives different results than blending tools.

On the next card, I kept the same theme and cut the Mistletoe Kisses mice out with one of the Four Petal Labels. Don’t they fit perfectly on that shape! And it gave me the most awesome place to add a sentiment. A match made to be for sure! This time I used the Loops embossing folder for my background.

With my last card, the Bringing Christmas to You image worked so well covering the card front side-to-side that I just trimmed it down to a strip instead of die-cutting it with a shape. I was tempted to use the Loops embossing folder again but went digging through my stash and thought the Dazzling Dots was a really great match instead.

For each of these cards, I finished them off with a little bit of shine using Smooth Discs scattered on each one. I chose silver, scarlet and champagne colors today.

I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s projects and found a little inspiration to try create something wonderful to share with someone.

I appreciate you sharing your time with me. Have a fabulous day!
