Game Day Collection – Sport Themed Card Ideas

Hi everyone – Alanna Moses here and I’m thrilled to be guesting on the Spellbinders blog using the new Game Day collection from Justine Dvorak. I am a huge sports fan, so this fun collection was right up my alley.

YOU’RE THE BEST AROUND

For my first card, I started with the Athletic Apparel die set. This die set is brilliant in that with just a few changes or additions, you can create jerseys for different sports or even a polo t-shirt.  I die-cut the main portion of the jersey along with the two sleeves from black card stock. I then took the Hummingbird Textures stencil and blended on some white pigment ink through one of the patterns. I then assembled my jersey and added in the sleeve and collar details which were die cut from white card stock. I then took the two dies from the Sporting Goods die set for the football. I colored the top portion with some brown markers.

I then got to work on the rest of my card. I used the Sports Talk embossing folder and embossed a piece of light grey card stock using it. I die-cut it out using the second to largest die from the Notched Corner Frames die set and then blended on some darker grey ink, concentrating the ink around the perimeter. I added this to a piece of white card stock that I rounded the corners on.  This was then added to a black notecard. I added my jersey and football onto the embossed panel and then finished off the card by adding in a sentiment which is from the All-Star Sentiments stamp set. I used the banner die from the Happy Parent’s Day Glimmer hot foil plate & die set to cut it out. I popped it up with foam tape.

For my second card, I started by embossing the Sports Talk embossing folder with a piece of light grey card stock. I added foam tape to this and then layered it onto a piece of white card stock. This was then added to a red A2 notecard.

I then got to work on the main elements of my card. I used the Sporting Goods die set and die-cut three of the baseballs and the bat. Each of these was die-cut from white card stock. I added a bit of shading to the baseballs and took a red marker to add to the stitching detail. I colored the bat with the same brown markers I used to color in the bat on my first card. I die-cut all the elements two times so they would have a bit of extra dimension. I adhered them to the bottom portion of my card. I added in the stamped sentiments which are from the All-Star Sentiments set. I used the same die I did on the first card to cut the top sentiment out. I finished off this card by adding in the die cut # sign and number 9. Those were both die cut from both white and black card stock and are from the Jersey Numbers die set.

For my third card, I created another jersey from the Athletic Apparel die set and again, used the Hummingbird Textures stencil to add some pattern to it. I added in the sleeve, collar, and shirt details with white die cuts that I colored red with a marker. I stamped the #1 MVP, from the All-Star Sentiments set, with black ink onto the left side. I then added in the die cut letters which are from the Be Bold Uppercase Alphabet die set. I added them going down the right side and sat this aside. I took the Sports Talk Embossing Folder and a piece of grey card stock. I added white pigment ink onto the inside of the embossing folder before I ran it through my Platinum 6 machine. I love the look this gives the embossed area. I die-cut this using one of the dies from the Essential Stylish Ovals die set. I then die-cut a piece of red card stock using the next largest die. I added thin foam tape behind the embossed panel and added this to the red card stock. This was then added to a white A2 notecard that I had previously added just a bit of black splatter onto it with black paint.

I added my jersey to the center embossed portion with thin foam tape at an angle. I then finished off the card by adding in my stamped sentiment from the All-Star Sentiments set. Again, this was trimmed using the same banner die I used on the other cards.
