Cardmaking with BetterPress – Autumn Card Inspiration

Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m thrilled to be back on the blog today to share a couple of projects using the BetterPress Fall and Halloween Collections from Spellbinders.  The beautiful autumn designs and fun Halloween icons and backgrounds in these collections inspired me to create three colorful cards with an elegant letterpress effect.

Autumn Floral Corner Card

I loved the collage of images in the Autumn Floral Corner Press Plate Set, so this was the first design I picked up.  With some bright autumn colors, I could easily bring a basic black press of this gorgeous image to life.

I started by adding black BetterPress Ink to the Autumn Floral Corner Press Plate and pressed the design onto Bisque BetterPress Cotton Cardstock.  After adding tons of color to the image with Peerless Watercolors, I trimmed the panel down to 4.125” x 5.375” and blended Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges with a blending brush.

I then matted the panel with Mahogany Cardstock before adhering it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with a tape runner.  To finish off the card, I pressed the sentiment from the set onto Bisque Cotton Cardstock, cut it out with the coordinating die, and popped it up in the top corner with foam adhesive.

Autumn Leaves Thank You Card

And how gorgeous are the Autumn Leaves Press Plates?  I watercolored the four designs to create a pretty border on this easy thank you card.

I started by adding Bark BetterPress Ink to the Autumn Leaves Press Plates and pressed the designs onto Porcelain BetterPress Cotton Cardstock.  After coloring them with many shades of Peerless Watercolors, I die-cut all of the leaves out using the coordinating dies.

To assemble the card, I trimmed a piece of Crimson Cardstock to 4.25” x 5.5” and embossed it with the Diamond Plaid Embossing Folder.  After arranging the leaves on the left side of the card front, I adhered them all down with foam adhesive and trimmed off any overhanging edges before adding it to my white card base.  Lastly, I added a sentiment foiled in Matte Gold Hot Foil using the Must-Have Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set and some Gold Mix Gems to embellish.

Ghostly Halloween Card

Finally, I wanted to combine a couple of the new Halloween BetterPress designs to create this bright and cute card perfect for sending a spooky hello.

I started by adding Black BetterPress Ink to the Pumpkins & Ghosts Background Press Plate and pressed the design onto Porcelain BetterPress Cotton Cardstock.  After blending Chipped Sapphire, Seedless Preserves, Picked Raspberry, Ripe Persimmon, and Carved Pumpkin Distress Inks down the cardstock, I trimmed the panel down to 4” x 5.25” and mounted it on a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive.

Next, I pressed the sentiments and ghosts from the Halloween Icons Press Plate Set onto Porcelain Cardstock using Black BetterPress Ink.  I added a bit of color to the ghosts with Peerless Watercolors and fussy-cut them out with scissors while die-cutting the sentiment out with the coordinating die.  To finish off the card, I added the ghosts and sentiments to the lower corner of the card front with foam adhesive.
