Interactive Travel Album Using Simple Stories’ Fresh Air

Hello crafty friends! My name is Suzanna Lee. I am a memory keeper who likes to work on various canvases be it a memory planner, layout pages or albums. I am absolutely thrilled to be a guest on the Spellbinders blog today sharing pages of a travel album I created using an 8×8 Doodlebug Binder, the Simple Stories Fresh Air collection and some Spellbinders cutting dies, a hot foil set and a wax seal.

One of the things I have always loved about memory keeping is the ability to create interactive elements. I am a Physical Therapist by profession so movement is paramount to me. I used a mix of in and out of the page protectors to allow for interaction and mix up pocket sizes to accommodate large photos as well as multiple photos.

The album begins with texture and movement! I used a rub on on acetate and fussy cut it to give the butterfly some dimension. The Journal Bit is popped up on patterned paper with an additional rub on flower for layers.

While the cover already reveals the location, I like to have a title page for the album as well. Having the  dates the page adds detail, as well as the reason; Spring break. Sequins sealed into the page protector allow for the viewer to see through the page a get a sneak of the trip, thus building the excitement.

To embellish the pages I used so many of the beautiful Simple Stories products including rub ons, die cuts, washi and stickers. The different elements, designs and size of the photos makes each page unique!

This postcard, one of many collected during our trip, was inserted into the album by creating “attachers” using a tab reinforcer from the Detailed Cutting Dies. A wax seal adds a textured tab and some contrast between the postcard and the large photo underneath.

I cut out and used lots of tags; some flip, some in pockets. The tags have photos and my journaling on them along with some fun details here and there.

These frames created with the Essential Duo Lines Glimmer Rectangles and hot foil create a window to the photo collage below. By cutting out the center and lining it with acetate, I was able to make the photo collage both interactive and more visually attention-grabbing. Embellishments on top along with a rub on butterfly grab the viewers’ attention.

I also used flowers from the Spellbinders Mini Blooms and Sprigs and  Umbrella Blooms Etched Dies to add some small details throughout the album.

On the Bits & Pieces ephemera above I used glitter to add some texture and dimension to the elements. I love the sparkle and additional pop to the bright colors this gives to the page.

Using the tags from Simple Stories collections are some of the best ways to include journaling. I often will cut out two connected tags and crease them down the center to open like a book or card for additional journaling. Or photos!

I created the cover, title page, 3 single pages, a postcard, and a double-page spread with a combination of techniques and interactive elements. Here they all are;
