Video Friday | Elephantastic Embellishing with Nichol
Hello everyone. This is Nichol Spohr and thank you for joining me! One of my favorite techniques when creating cards made entirely of die cuts, is to embellish and add detail with pens, inks, paints, etc. to dress up images for maximum impact.
I love mixing and matching multiple dies to create one-of-a-kind scenes for my cards. The Ella-fant Etched dies made an adorable up in the clouds scene when paired with the Sun and Clouds Dies, Simply Said Phrase Set 2 sentiments, and Pierced Rectangles and Circles.
For the background of both cards, I used the Pierced Rectangles and Circles dies to die cut smooth white cardstock to create frames. On a separate piece of cardstock I applied Distress Oxide Inks in Peacock Feathers, Faded Jeans, and Black Soot, spritzed them with water from a Distress Sprayer, and adhered the frame over the inked panel with foam adhesive squares.
Clouds were die cut from vellum and smooth white cardstock and adhered behind the opening and along the bottom front edge.
Ella-phants were die cut from light gray cardstock, the edges inked with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink and detail added with colored pencils and black and white gel pens. The elephants were adhered tucked between the clouds on both cards.
The balloon was die cut from red and dark gray yardstick and pieced together as shown. Each balloon was finished with a layer of Nuvo Crystal Glaze and once dry the “highlight” was reinforced with a white pen.
Silver glitter cardstock was adhered to fun foam with Stick It Adhesive and sentiments from the Simply Said Phrase Set Two were die cut to create dimensional greetings adhered below each framed scene.
An additional greeting was stamped on black cardstock with Versamark Ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder before being trimmed into a thin strip and adhered below the dimensional greeting.
Each card was finished with a scattering of Nuvo Crystal Drops in Silver Moondust and Simply White.

Super cute cards, Nichol. I really like the shading you added with distress inks. It was amazing to see the before and after die cut pieces. It adds a lot of depth and dimension for such a little added touch. Thanks for sharing.
