Jane Davenport Artomology | Mermaid Mixed Media Layout with Angela Tombari
Hello crafty friends! I’m so excited and honored to be here with you on the Spellbinders blog to celebrate the launch of Jane Davenport Artomology collection. My name is Angela Tombari, I’m Italian and you can find a bit more about me on my blog ineedconfetti.com or on my Instagram account. Today I’m sharing a mixed media layout where I mainly used dies and bits and pieces of washi tape sheets from this collection.
The layout is in A4 size and the pic is of a beautiful young woman, the daughter of a dear friend of mine. I printed the photo on a textured white cardstock. I resized the photo so that it was wide enough to cover all the surface and I started playing directly on it. I first ripped thin strips of light blue washi and adhered them on the dark blue spots of the water to create bright shadows.
At the bottom of the page I added sea scenery. I fussy cut some seaweeds and flowers from the washi tape sheets, I die-cut other elements like seashells and starfishes and I started creating the layering. Other die cuts were colored using Jane Davenport Markers. Some are cut out from the washi sheets. I first adhered washi on to a piece of cardstock, I placed the die and run it through my Deep Sea Die Cutter.
I’m not a designer but I forced myself to draw the hair of my mermaids and I admit that I enjoyed doodling. I took inspiration from the beautiful drawing of Jane, trying to imitate her work. I first used a black fine liner, then I added the colors using markers in the same shades of the washi sheets. Here you can see the layers of embellishments I added at the bottom of the picture.
I added a few other embellishments, like the little sticker flower that I couldn’t resist to put on the mermaid hair and last the title You Mermaid. To finish the layout, I adhered the page on a piece of black cardstock, 1/8 of inch wider and on a second piece of withe cardstock that I colored along the border with the markers. And voilà, the page is done!
