Playing With Color and the Every Occasion Floral Alphabet

Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m thrilled to be back on the blog today to share a couple of cards made with the new Every Occasion Floral Alphabet Collection from Spellbinders.  The gorgeous floral letters and matching sentiments in this collection make such a statement on their own, I decided to play with different color schemes to create interesting backgrounds on these three fun cards for various occasions.

Ombré Sending Love Card

One of my very favorite types of cards to mail out are “sending love” cards, so I was excited to see the beautiful Floral S and Sentiment Press Plate.  Pink might seem like an obvious choice for a love card, but here I threw in a bit of purple to deepen the ombré effect for this pretty card for a friend.

Ink up the letter and sentiment from the Floral S and Sentiment Press Plate Set using Azalea, Strawberry, and Mulberry BetterPress Inks from top to bottom and press the image onto Porcelain BetterPress Cotton Cardstock.  (Be sure to overlap the colors a bit on the press plates when inking to ensure a bit of mixing for a blended look.)  Once pressed, die cut the sentiment out with one of the Essential Floral Reflection Dies.

Trim a piece of Pink Sand Cardstock to 4” x 5.25” and blend Saltwater Taffy, Abandoned Coral, and Seedless Preserves Distress Ink down the cardstock.  Emboss the panel using the Floral & Vine 3D Embossing Folder, lightly rub white pigment ink over the raised areas to bring the details out a bit, and adhere to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive.  Die cut flowers out of white cardstock using the Garden Builder Die Set, assemble with glue, and adhere across the card front with liquid glue.

Rainbow Birthday Card

The Floral & and Sentiment Press Plate Set looks so elegant, but I wanted to add a little fun with tons of color.  A rainbow background and rainbow floral arrangement was the perfect touch for this bright and cheery birthday card.

Apply Black BetterPress Ink to the letter and sentiments from the Floral & and Sentiment Press Plate Set and press the designs onto Porcelain BetterPress Cotton Cardstock.  Color the flowers in with brightly colored water-based markers and die cut everything out using the coordinating dies.

Blend Candied Apple, Carved Pumpkin, Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean, and Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Ink over a piece of white cardstock and splatter clean water over the panel for some texture.  Die cut the panel using one of the Postage Edge Rectangles Dies, mat it with Onyx Cardstock, and adhere it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive.  Add the sentiments to the card front with more foam adhesive to finish off the card.

Golden Anniversary Card

Lastly, I wanted to create an elegant 50th-anniversary card using another fun color scheme…hardly any color at all!  Here I mixed just white and gold along with the couple’s last name initial for a pretty custom card to celebrate their special day.

Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using the letter from the Floral B and Sentiment Press Plate Set and the Glimmer Hot Foil System.  Die cut white cardstock using the Scrolled Punch & Pierce Plate and then die cut a window from the center using one of the Essential Four Petal Labels Dies.  Trim a piece of Mirror Gold Cardstock to 4.25” x 5.5”, cut the same window out of the panel using the same die, and adhere behind the white die-cut panels with liquid glue.

Add the foiled panel to a top-folding A2-sized white card base and then adhere the window panel over top using foam adhesive.  Die cut white cardstock several times using one of the flower dies from the Garden Builder Die Set, assemble with liquid glue, and add Gold Mix Gems as the flower centers.  Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using one of the sentiments from the Yana’s Special Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate Set, cut it out with the coordinating die, and adhere it to the front of the card along with the flowers.
