Getting More Mileage from Modeling Pastes with Add-ins

Hey there, Spellbinders artists and enthusiasts! Daniel West here, with some inspiration and a few tips for stenciling with TCW Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste and White Modeling Paste. Sometimes we see a simple product in basic white and wonder what we can do with it. But these pastes work like a blank canvas you can use as is or add in colors and glitter for different effects.

The Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste boasts a wicked short drying time and a true-to-its-name texture. This paste lays down quickly and without fuss. When I stenciled it onto my projects, I noticed it didn’t seep in under the stencils because of its fluffy texture. It respected the integrity of my stencils’ cut designs very well.

Also, it layers nicely when you add different colors to it. Here, I created a moon with blue cardstock, white paste and then added some Cerulean and Lime Green ColorSparx Watercolor Powders and some Art Glitter Baby Baubs White Glitter to it and layered it over the white. After it was dry (about 10 minutes or so), I ran it through my die cutter with a circle die and the layers held up beautifully and flattened just a little.

You can also start laying down the paste in plain white, then add some color to the paste before finishing to add an ombré of colors. This works really well with the Star Bright Stencil!!

The White Modeling Paste lays down super smoothly with no fluffy texture. It shines, too, as it dries with a glossy finish. I didn’t have to treat my stencils with any spray to keep it from seeping under the edges of the design, either. It ends up very opaque and takes on color and glitter add-ins well.

For my projects, I chose very straightforward designs. I stenciled a panel for each design using the Star Bright stencil and then added a sentiment from a pack I had stenciled and cut already months ago.

That’s another pro-tip for you. When you get into a creative slump, take some time to go through your stash and stencil and die-cut sentiments to keep on hand. You will notice they help to spark your creativity when you need it most later.

I hope you enjoyed this little foray into The Crafter’s Workshop Modeling Pastes.

Be sure to try them with your favorite coloring agents and mix-ins. And definitely play around with them a while to find your favorite combos.
