Crafting with Vivant Ribbons, Cords and Twines

Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m excited to be back on the blog today to share a couple of cards made with some of the beautiful new ribbons, cords, and twines from Vivant available in the Spellbinders shop.  I chose my favorite ribbon techniques and paired them with some gorgeous Spellbinders products to create these three easy cards with tons of texture and a little something extra.

Floral Wax Seal Card

With all of the beautiful wax seal products released recently, it would be hard to craft with ribbons and not consider using this technique first.  Here I paired a floral bouquet and wax seal with a couple of different kinds of ribbon for this simple and pretty wax seal card.

Trim a piece of Sage Cardstock to 4” x 5.25” and emboss it with the Floral & Vine 3D Embossing Folder.  After cutting Peach Sorbet, Dahlia, Rainforest, Fern, Forest and white cardstock using the Sealed Wildflowers Die Set, assemble the stems and glue the bouquet in the center of the card front.

If you are planning to use a variety of cords and twines of different thicknesses on a card, it’s probably best to prepare your wax seal on a silicone mat instead of directly on your project. Melt Coral Wax Beads, press the wax with the Deco For You Wax Seal Stamp, and highlight the design on the seal with a gold metallic marker.

Wrap a single strand of Circle Gold Metallic Cord around the card front and bouquet and then two turns of Lurex Marble Rose Cotton Cord.  The cotton cord is a little thicker than some of the twines you might normally use with wax seals, so to adhere the seal to the card front, use a combination of Small White Foam Adhesive Squares and Wax Seal Stamp Adhesive Circles for a stronghold.  To finish off the card, add Gold Mix Gems to the flower centers for a little sparkle and shine.

Foiled Ribbon Christmas Card

Did you know that you can add foiled designs to ribbon with your Glimmer Hot Foil Machine?  The Vivant Double Face Satin Ribbon is the perfect material and width for this technique.  Imagine creating custom ribbon with different patterns for your cards and gifts!  Here I added a sentiment to some of the Warm Red Satin Ribbon for this clean and simple Christmas card.

Apply Matte Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using the Glimmer Holly Background Plate.  Trim the cardstock to 4” x 5.25” and blend Cracked Pistachio, Evergreen Bough, Pine Needles, and a little Black Soot Distress Ink down the panel for a fun ombre look.

Apply Matte Gold Hot Foil to Warm Red Double Face Satin Ribbon using the small sentiment strip from the A Merry Little Christmas Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set and the Glimmer Hot Foil System. Best Ever Craft Tape will keep your Glimmer Plate and foil secure and won’t harm the ribbon when removing after foiling.

Apply Matte Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using one of the large sentiments from the A Merry Little Christmas Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set.  Cut the sentiment out using the coordinating die.

Wrap the foiled ribbon around the card front, secure in the back with a tape runner or glue, and add the panel to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive.  Add the die-cut sentiment to the card with more foam adhesive.

Ribbon Threaded Note Card

With some of the thinner ribbons and twine, it’s easy to add an unexpected touch to some of your projects by threading it through die-cuts with decorative loopy borders.  Here I altered a die-cut to form a square background for my sentiment and added some narrow ribbon around the edge for a unique focal point.

Die cut white cardstock twice using the outline die from the Stitched Kaleidoscope Hexi-Gem Die Set.  Trim each die-cut into a triangle with a paper trimmer or scissors as shown.  Trim Raindrop Cardstock to 1.75” square.

Line up the two die-cut triangular pieces to form a square and adhere the Raindrop piece in the center to hold the entire piece together.  Thread Marble Rose Narrow Ribbon in and out of the decorative border, starting and ending at a corner so that you can tie a bow to join the ends when finished.

Trim a piece of Cosmic Sky Cardstock to 4.125” square and emboss it with the Mandala Blooms 3D Embossing Folder.  Mat it with Velvet Rose Cardstock, wrap a single length of Marble Rose Narrow Ribbon around the center of the panel, and adhere it to a top-folding 4.5” square white card base with foam adhesive.  Add the threaded die-cut to the center with foam adhesive and pop a sentiment foiled in Cobalt Hot Foil using the Must-Have Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set up in the center of the card.
