Fun Floral Cards with the BetterPress Spring Collection

Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m excited to be back on the blog today to share a couple of cards made with the new BetterPress Spring Collection from Spellbinders.  The delicate floral images and beautiful sentiments in this collection inspired me to create three pretty cards for a variety of occasions this spring.

Muted Floral Sympathy Card

I thought the dainty floral images in the Flower Stems Press Plate Set were so beautiful that I pulled these out first.  Here I inked them up in muted colors and created both a background and focal point for this easy sympathy card.

Arrange the plates from the Flower Stems Press Plate Set within the A2 guidelines on the BetterPress System and apply Saffron BetterPress Ink to all of them.  Press the designs onto Porcelain Cotton Cardstock, trim the panel to 4” x 5.25”, and lightly blend Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges.  Mat the panel with Latte Cardstock before adding it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with tape runner.

Apply Bark BetterPress Ink to one of the images in the Flower Stem Press Plate as well as the You Are Everything Sentiments Press Plate Set and press them onto Porcelain Cotton Cardstock.  Cut the sentiment and flower out with the coordinating dies.  Color the flower in with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens (I used just the Ochre pen with a Blender Pen for a monochromatic look).  Die cut Latte Cardstock using one of the Essential Floral Reflection Dies and mount it in the center of the card front with foam adhesive.  Add the flower and sentiment with more foam adhesive and embellish with Gold Mix Gems.

Floral Sprigs Hello Card

The Sealed Cord & Faux Seal Sentiments Press Plate Set is so fun and unique, I had to try this next.  With just a few inks and markers, you can create a card that looks three-dimensional so easily!

Apply Black BetterPress Ink to the cord from the Sealed Cord & Faux Sentiments Press Plate Set and press it onto a piece of Porcelain Cotton Cardstock trimmed to 4” x 5.25”.  Line up the Sealed Florals Press Plate so that the stems will go through the center of the cord, apply Black BetterPress Ink, and press it onto the same panel.  On a separate piece of Porcelain Cotton Cardstock, press the sentiments from the Sealed Cord & Faux Sentiments Press Plate Set using Black BetterPress Ink and cut one of them out with the coordinating circle die.

Color the images in using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens.  When finished, add an outline around all of the images with a gray marker to make the images pop off the page.  Mat the panel with Onyx Cardstock and adhere it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base.  Color the sentiment circle in with markers as well and pop it up on top of the faux cord with foam adhesive.  Embellish with Opal Mix Gems.

Foiled Floral Anniversary Card

Lastly, I wanted to create a pretty anniversary card using the beautiful Cosmos Backdrop Press Plate and thought it would look amazing foiled in gold.

Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using the Cosmos Backdrop Press Plate and the Glimmer Hot Foil System.  Add color to the background using the Cosmos Backdrop Stencil Set and Distress Inks.  (Here I used Dried Marigold, Carved Pumpkin, Ripe Persimmon, Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, and Rustic Wilderness for a bright and cheery background.)

Trim the panel down to 4” x 5.25” and mat it with both Mirror Gold and Fern Cardstock before adhering it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base.  Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using the You Are Everything Sentiments Press Plate and cut it out using the coordinating die.  Die cut Fern Cardstock using the coordinating die and adhere the sentiment shape behind the foiled sentiment for a shadow (this helps the sentiment stand out better on top of the bold background).
