Black & White Plus One Color with Woodland Wildlife
Hello crafters! Joan Bardee here and I’m excited to share with you the fantastic Ranger Woodland Wildlife set of stamps and coordinating dies by Simon Hurley. Spellbinders released this gorgeous set with two other fun stamp and die pairings – Inspired and Everyday Wreaths. I chose to focus on Woodland Wildlife, but the color palette I’m using would work well with the other sets as well. Today’s color palette is a striking black and white plus one other color. Since Woodland Wildlife is packed with line art drawings (as opposed to solid stamps) this color formula is great if you don’t want to color in the images or just want…

Vintage Postal Christmas Cards
Hi everyone! So happy to welcome you to a new post here on the Spellbinders blog. I’m Pam Sparks, cardmaker, blogger and instagram creator. Today I’m sharing three cards I made with the new Simon Hurley Christmas Collection. My first card uses images from the Sketched Santas and Sketched Christmas stamp and die sets. I had fun stamping and coloring on kraft color cardstock with color pencils. I kept it pretty simple…inking, some die cutting and layering for A2 size cards. My second card I had the idea to go ‘postal’ and make a faux postcard design using the Sketched Snowmen stamp and die sets. I stamped and heat-embossed two…

Applying the 60/30/10 Color “Rule” to Nichol’s Needlework Collection
Hello crafters! Joan Bardee here sharing cards made with the darling Nichol’s Needlework collection. The highlight of this collection is a die that creates an embroidery hoop, screw, and “fabric.” Nichol Spohr combined her love of cardmaking and needlework in this collection and I think you are going to love it. For me, cardmaking is all about color! There is a design “rule” that uses color to help achieve a cohesive or balanced design. The rule is that the primary or dominant color should be 60% of the design, a secondary color 30%, and an accent color 10%. While I’ve been aware of this rule for a while, I find…

Silly Goose Birthday Party
Hello crafty friends! It’s Rachel Alvarado from RachelAlvaradoDesigns.com. I have a few cards to share with you showcasing some fun and beautiful new stamp sets illustrated by Simon Hurley. For my first card, I created a slimline card measuring at 3.5” x 8.5” featuring the Silly Goose Stamp Set. I made my card one-layer by masking my images as I stamped. In order to do this, I first created a rough draft of where I wanted to place my images and then used my MISTI to align my images on my final draft as I stamped. I started with the images that appeared in the front of my card first,…

Today, I’m showcasing a series of summer cards using the adorable House-Mouse Summer Fun collection. In my previous post, I discussed how storytelling inspired my coloring and highlighted watercolor techniques focusing on spotlight effects (you can check out that post HERE). This time, however, I’m sharing tips for when you can’t spend a lot of time coloring. You’ll see this approach in the three cards I’ve created for you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them!…

Let’s Give a Spring Story to Little Mice Through Watercoloring!
Hello crafters! Cha Lion here and I’m so excited to be on the Spellbinders blog as a guest designer. Today I’m sharing some spring cards using this adorable collection called the House-Mouse Spring has Sprung. Since I was a little girl, I always love coloring and telling stories. To make these cards, I combined watercoloring techniques based on striking spotlight effect, that is, the way of light on our main focal area. I also imagined some more mice stories to color them in, which you can read at the end of this post to give you some ideas. Let’s give a spring story to these mice through watercoloring! COATS OF…

Custom Backgrounds With Small Stamps
Hello! I’m Jen Kotas from Who Stole My Glitter and I’m happy to be here today to share three cards featuring the January 2024 Collection from Simon Hurley. All three cards feature backgrounds made using the small stamps in each set. All three cards I’m sharing use small stamps to create a background to highlight the main image. The use of a stamp positioner helps with placement and when using multiple ink colors on one stamp but this look can be achieved without. Using a stamp positioner, place the small stamps from the Big Hugs Stamp Set close together and stamp using a teal ink pad. Rearrange the stamps and…

Vibrant Rainbow Palette Using Simon Hurley’s Leaf Prints
Hello crafters! Joan Bardee here and I’m happy to be back on the Spellbinders blog sharing 3 bright, colorful cards using Simon Hurley’s Leaf Prints stamps and dies. Leaf Prints is a set of beautiful solid (no coloring!!) red rubber stamps of leaves and there is a coordinating set of dies available. Leaf Prints is perfect for fall cards, and normally I would go with a typical autumn color palette, but I used a vibrant rainbow palette instead and I love how they came out. Although, when you get to the 3rd card, you’ll see I’m second-guessing myself. Let me know what you think. RAINBOW BOUQUET This card packs a…
