Fun Ideas for Die Cutting With Patterned Paper Featuring Doodlebug

Hello, crafty friends! This is Emily Leiphart and I’m thrilled to be back on the Spellbinders blog, featuring Doodlebug’s Gingham-Linen Rainbow Petite Prints 12×12” Cardstock Paper.

Spellbinders is now carrying the entire line of Doodlebug’s Rainbow Petite Prints and it was such a difficult choice because I love them all. Linen is always a must-have for me because it’s so subtle and I love that I can easily stamp on it. Gingham is another fun and versatile choice.

After choosing the color palette for my cards and making sure that I had both the Doodlebug prints and coordinating solid cardstock, I went to work on my designs. Spellbinders has so many amazing die collections to choose from but these are the ones I haven’t had a chance to play with yet!

This first card features the adorable Dancin’ Birthday Monster sitting inside the car from Gnome Drive Holiday. I was so delighted that the monster was able to fit and now I’m going to have to see what other animals and creatures fit into this cute little car.

To create the background scene, I used two of the Essential Arches to cut a frame, small clouds from On Cloud Nine and one of the Color Block Scenic Scape dies for the hill. I stamped the sentiment from Monster Birthday Sentiments along the top of the arch before adhering all the pieces to the card base.

This second card features an embossed background created with the Flowers & Foliage 3D Embossing Folder and die cut with the Precision Layering A2 B Dies.

The patterned ovals were cut from two different sizes of Essential Modern Ovals dies and trimmed after I gauged their position on the embossed panel. I set those aside while I die-cut and assembled the Little Chickadee and Sweet Birdie using a combination of petite prints and solid cardstock.

I love incorporating bling on my cards, whether it’s in the form of glitter cardstock, gems or twine. Here, I added a sparkly layer under the wings and a sliver at the bottom of the larger oval. Before glueing all the pieces on the card base, I stamped a two-part custom sentiment using words from Monster Birthday Sentiments.

My last card features the Four Petal Thank You Floral which is so easy to use. I was delighted to see how well the die cut details showed up on the patterned paper, which I used for all of the flowers!

After assembling the bouquet, I set it aside to create the base panel, which was cut using the Fluted Classics Rectangles. I placed the bouquet on top to gauge positioning for the sentiment, which is also from Monster Birthday Sentiments.

I was missing the glitter element on this card and originally planned to add some silver gems around the bouquet. I decided I wanted more sparkle and it was easier to cut the entire foliage piece a second time from silver glitter cardstock and create a shadow.

I hope you find inspiration from this trio of cards featuring die-cut patterned paper! I love using the same color palette to create multiple cards and these rainbow petite prints make it easy to elevate your cardmaking.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! You can find more inspiration on my blog, Instagram, and YouTube channel.
